
Mel Gibson was born on 3rd January 1956 at Peekskill, New York, USA. Gibson moved with his family to Australia at the age of 12 years. There Gibson got admitted to the National Institute of Dramatic Arts at the University of New South Wales located at Sydney. Before achieving stardom Gibson used to do stage appearances which include 'Death of a Salesman'.
Then director George Miller got interested in him and later caste him in 'Mad Max'. It became a good success and after this Gibson began to be recognized worldwide. After this he appeared in 'Tim'. Gibson won theAustralian Film Institute Best Actor Award for his wonderful portrayal of the handicapped man. His success continued with his involvement in films like 'The Road Warrior' and 'Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome'. Gibson got a second Australian Best Actor Award for Peter Weir's 'Gallipol'. Gibson got the William Shakespeare Award from the Folger Theatre in Washington, D.C, for his role in 'Hamlet'. Icon also produced 'Forever Young' and 'Maverick' which starred Gibson himself. Mel Gibson made his debut as a director in the film 'The Man Without A Face', where Gibson was the leading star. It was also produced by the Icon Productions.
